Love?

I don't know what love is, but 

I know I feel safe with you 

Like a baby being cradled  

Listening to the steadiness of your heartbeat  

Feeling the warmth and softness of your body 

 

I don't know what love is, but 

I know I feel hurt when you're hurt  

When I'm not part of your story 

When you're not part of mine 

I know I feel helpless when you don't share your pain  

 

I don't know what love is, but 

I know I yearn for your validation  

To be desired and be beautiful in your eyes 

I know I yearn for your laughter  

To share in the joy of the mundane

Is this love 

Or is it simply a case of  

Not knowing myself 

And so holding onto you 

Feels like love
